Much like a child trying to catch sunshine into a mason jar, I have been trying to catch my daily golden moments. At times, I wish I could open it and take a whiff of strawberry and vanilla memories.
Growing up, I believed that timeless moments like these could only be created by traveling, because it’s a fast lane to escaping daily routines. To me, travel has always been my wonder pill that made the herd of salsa-dancing elephants in my head, trampling my brain into mush, disappear.
Yet, most of the time, even hobby-travelers like me spend most of the time at home daydreaming about the few weeks of travel to come. To put your mind at ease, there is more to the art of travel-hearted living than buying a plane ticket that takes you miles away. Between daily obligations and the long desired vacation, there is space. It’s up to you to make the most of it! Being wired with wanderlust genes means to also allow yourself to be a traveler in your hometown, maybe even within your very own four walls, as well. –What’s so wrong with dating your city? Shake off the need of accomplishment. Instead, explore, create and indulge in the beauty of the moment.
The first step is to escape routines, which allows you to seek places where stories happen. Add a dash of creativity and a spoon full of spontaneity and you are on your way to adventure.
Take something small and make it big! I personally enjoy taking the time to turn my morning toast into an extravagant breakfast-in-bed, hiding away in a local café or strolling through the parks trying to find new spots. Other days, I venture into new cafés, take a seat outside or near the window to simply observe. Sometimes, I even take a bike or train ride out of the city. The next adventure might be waiting just thirty minutes away!
Get touristy! Bring your travel gear, like your camera or notebook, to define your travel moment. Why not retain the day with a postcard?
What is the best thing about being a hometown traveler? You can always adjust your passion to your packed schedule, save money and enjoy the experiences with your friends.
Let’s put the time on hold together and toast to more strawberry and vanilla moments to come!
